Hopefully this is what I look like next Sunday crossing the finish line with and the rest of the team. I haven’t trained quite as much as I wanted or fundraised as much as I wanted but we still got one whole damn week to go! I’m proud to be running for a cause I feel so strongly about. Making healthy food accessible is how we start building healthier communities. Stay humble and grateful and we can all be thankful that this isn’t my running outfit…. It’ll probably be a tad more colourful 😎

This past week our community lost a visionary leader. Colin was someone who put his heart and soul into everything that he did. From pulling weeds and helping build greenhouses to working through business plans with young farmers. His enthusiasm and boundless energy was infectious to be around. Clearwater Farm is a testament to his ability to build community from the ground up.
One of my favourite memories of Colin is that first winter building greenhouses. This meant long days working in sub zero temperatures to try and get the structures up in time for the next growing season. Not once did he complain. The odd night he would stay at the farmhouse, either too tired to go home or wanting to be up with the sun to get started on work the next day. He would opt for a spot on the old carpet beside the stairs, tucked into a sleeping bag with his dog Mars beside him, snoring away happily at the end of a long day. By the time we got up at 6:30am to make coffee he’d be on his computer typing away. Most likely applying for a grant, putting together a report for the board, or fleshing out a new idea which he would be quick to share with a twinkle in his eye.
His son Reid says it best, “Colin was an incredible bright spot in the lives of countless friends, colleagues, and family members. He knew all of this but at times mental illness can turn even the brightest days into cloudy ones.”
I was fortunate to spend 8 years working with Colin. He was a colleague but most of all he was a friend and mentor. He welcomed me into his family, he helped me get help when I needed it most, and he helped shape me into the person that I am today. His loss is immense and he will be greatly missed by all.

Ever dreamt of a career in sustainable agriculture? is hiring. “The program is a multi-year experiential learning opportunity that takes the individual from developing physical skills and basic farming knowledge (year 1) through increasingly independent work (years 2-3) with opportunities in years 3-5 to access increasing amounts of land to be farmed for their own account!” Check out the job posting link in my bio. A more sustainable food system requires more regenerative farmers, come be part of the solution

Some like it hot, some like it cold! What are some of your favourite winter treats? I love me some local, steamy, stay at home cider 🍎. Fresh pressed with apples grown right here in Georgina. Thanks Homestead Orchards!

Love letter to my Astro van: This beauty hit 500,000km today. From construction projects, to life on the farm, from coast to gorgeous coast across Canada, down to California and all the way back through the heartland of the United States, this baby continues to run. Sweltering in the summer, freezing in the winter, limited head room in the living area when you are over 6ft, and for those of you who have riden shotgun it is certainly not the smoothest ride. Cooper is the only one who loves it more than me. Always up for an adventure the journey continues.... where to next!? #500,000km @ Mojave National Preserve Lava Tubes

Sunny side up! “Imagine we had a food system that actually produced wholesome food. Imagine if it produced that food in a way that restored the land. Imagine if we could eat every meal knowing these few simple things: What it is we’re eating. Where it came from. How it found it’s way to our table. And what it really cost. If that was the reality, then every meal would have the potential to be a perfect meal” -Michael Pollen
