Through our shared community garden, along with some balcony gardens tended by volunteers, we’ve added extra produce all summer long. It doesn’t make up the bulk of our weekly supply, but imagine if we were all able to grow and share a little food with our neighbours.
When I dropped off a few bags of herbs last week, a volunteer told me this beautiful metaphor:
A tiny hummingbird flies back and forth, carrying drops of water to a forest fire. The other animals laugh: “You can’t put out a fire with that!”
“I’m doing what I can,” she replies.

For many years now, Toronto Food Not Bombs (Allan Gardens) has been present in Allan Gardens Park. Building off the traditional Food Not Bombs model of shared meals, we collect food that would otherwise be wasted from businesses and nonprofits, and share full bags of groceries with our neighbours. It takes many people in big and small ways to make this work—and it’s one hell of a community we’ve created. Another summer is coming to an end, but we’re still here! ♥️

We’d love to hear from you if you have suggestions on how we can keep our community safe and comfortable. Leave us a comment or DM us any ideas you have, strategies you’ve tried, or practices we should avoid.
