Canada has some of the best seafood in the world… so why are so many Canadians eating seafood that was imported from somewhere else?

We believe Canadians should have access to seafood that is fresh, natural, and sourced from our own Canadian waters

A catch that gives back 🎣❤️

Larry’s Catch has always been more than just a name. It’s a piece of our story.

My dad, Larry, grew up as a fifth-generation fisherman in Nova Scotia. The ocean, fishing, and that way of life were such a huge part of who he was. Then, in the early 2000s, he was diagnosed with MS.

As the years went on, MS changed what his life looked like and eventually forced him to step away from the career he loved. It changed our family and the way we understand this disease.

This business carries his name, his roots, and a little piece of where our family comes from. So being able to give back to a cause that has personally touched our family means so much to us.

This Friday, September 4th, we’re proud to support MS Canada by donating 10% of ALL sales to help fund support programs, advocacy, and critical research.

Thank you for helping us make a difference with every catch 💙

Canada imports MORE seafood than we export ⬇️

Canada just announced 25% tariffs on a broad range of U.S. seafood - and it raises a bigger question:

Why are we importing so much seafood in the first place?

In 2025, Canada exported roughly 513,000 tonnes of seafood, worth $8.47 billion, to markets around the world.

That same year, we imported about 543,000 tonnes - meaning Canada actually imported more seafood than it exported by weight.

Of course, imports play an important role in giving Canadians access to species we don’t catch here. But the numbers still tell an interesting story.

Canada produces some of the most sought-after seafood in the world. Our lobster, salmon, scallops, crab, haddock and countless other species are shipped to tables across the globe.

We think more of that seafood should find its way onto Canadian tables, too.

Because buying Canadian means knowing where your seafood comes from, supporting the people and communities behind it, and getting access to some of the best seafood in the world.

The world wants Canadian seafood. We think Canadians should get more of it, too. 🇨🇦

Did you know there’s a fish called escolar that’s banned for sale in countries like Japan, South Korea, and Italy because it can cause severe gastrointestinal illness?

The concerning part? A study by Oceana Canada found that every sample sold as “butterfish” they tested was actually escolar. They also found seafood mislabelling was widespread, with 44% of seafood samples being sold as something other than what they claimed to be.

It’s a reminder that knowing where your seafood comes from matters.

At Larry’s Catch, every box can be traced back to the Canadian fishing families it came from, so you know exactly what’s on your dinner table.

If you have friends or family who buy seafood regularly, consider sharing this with them. Everyone deserves to know what’s really on their plate.
