We’re getting an early start to pumpkin season! 🍁 🧡Our Pumpkin Chana Curry* is NEW for the herbivores and inspired by a beloved RFRK throwback, our Pumpkin Roti, which we’ve given a glow-up. This new spin includes chickpeas, which bring plant-forward protein, a flavourful blend of herbs & kid-friendly spices, and pumpkin, which adds a creamy, cozy texture with a hint of natural sweetness. The appetizing orange celebrates the colours of the season, plus Canada’s Food Guide recommends eating orange veggies a few times a week.
Served today with quinoa or a locally-baked whole wheat roll, baby romaine with housemade balsamic dressing, and orange.
💡Fun fact: “chana” means chickpeas in Hindi & several other South Asian languages.
We’re rolling this one out for our vegetarians to start, but it may be too delicious not to share with all of our little eaters. Let us know in the comments if you think it should become a kid-appoved meal for everyone. 😊
*Omnivores will enjoy Chicken and Wild Rice Stew today.

Happy Labour Day! We blinked & somehow it’s already September, aka the final day of sanity before back-to-school mode officially begins. 😱 Because once school starts, the family calendar goes from “what should we do today?” to “who has to be where, and when?!”
Here’s to one last chill day before the busy family routines kick back in. Tell us how you’re celebrating, or maybe celebrating means doing absolutely nothing at all. 😎

💚 A classic with some lentil love. Our Lentil Bolognese* is our plant-based take on this comforting fave, featuring protein-rich lentils simmered with Italian-inspired herbs & seasonings. Served with its bolognese bestie, some whole grain penne, plus veggie rainbow and local stone fruit from longtime partners Vineland Growers Co-operative. What a balanced lunch!
For us, developing our childcare menus involves including plenty of plant-based variety for our herbivores.

Consider this your sign to introduce your little ones to fish. ✨🐟 Our Carrot & Flax Fish* is a delicious creation made with real ingredients: a nourishing & flavourful carrot & flax marinade on top of ASC-certified basa filets. This is a great introductory fish, with a delicate flavour & tender texture that makes it an easy choice for kids on their food exploration journey. And judging by the feedback we hear from parents, our fish dishes are becoming some of those favourites!
Paired with RFRK’s housemade coleslaw (a fan fave fave that brings the perfect crunchy component), locally-baked focaccia slice or yellow rice, and orange.
Comment “carrot” to turn this lunch into one of your easy family meals! We’ll DM the free home recipe to your inbox. 💌

🙌 Burrito lovers know what’s up! Our Bean Burrito Filling comes with either yellow rice or a whole wheat wrap, local sour cream, and our red cabbage & spinach salad with RFRK’s housemade apple c***r vinaigrette.
For a balanced lunch, we serve this with pineapple on the side, bringing a naturally sweet finish, or to nibble on in between. 🍍
It’s a delicious plant-based lunch that brings plenty of flavour to the table, and makes a great healthy meal for kids.

🥣 Our Soup & Sammie is a choose-your-own-adventure style lunch that encourages yummy food exploration.
Featuring hummus & cheddar cheese slice, a locally-baked multigrain pita bun, apple, and our Squash-Coconut Soup. One of the best things about this meal is how customizable it can be! Our favourite way to enjoy it is with everything together: hummus, cheddar cheese slice, and apple layered onto the multigrain pita bun. But there are no rules: maybe the hummus becomes a dip for the apples, while the cheese finds its way into a sandwich. 🍎🧀
Feeding kids is so fun when there are different ways to enjoy a meal!

We put raisins in beef, and it’s amazing. ❤️🇵🇭
Our Filipino Beef Giniling* (that’s gee-NEE-ling 😉) is a comfort meal that celebrates family traditions.
This recipe was inspired by Crissy, an ECE who shared a beautiful memory of cooking giniling with her grandmother in the Philippines as part of our contest. We loved her story so much, we turned it into a recipe we couldn’t wait to put on the menu.
We use Ontario beef raised without added hormones or routine antibiotics, gently sautéed veggies & raisins for a touch of natural sweetness. Served with brown rice, napa cabbage & spinach salad with housemade Caesar dressing made with Canadian, organic tofu from PH Food, plus pineapple. It’s real food for kids with a whole lot of heart!
✨ Make it at rfrk.com/real-food-recipes/filipino-beef-giniling. Available when you subscribe to our newsletter, What’s Cookin’.
*Herbivores will enjoy Chili Chili Bang Bang, another free recipe available on our Real Food Recipes page.

In fact, many RFRK’s fish recipes get rave reviews from the little ones, with parents asking us what our secret is! Today it’s served with quinoa or sweet potato mash, green beans and banana.
Psst: this recipe might not be staying an RFRK secret forever! 👀Drop a 🐟 in the comments if you’d like to see it make its way to your kitchen.
