THREE more local partners to rave about this Local Food Week! 🫶
Wednesday’s Filipino Beef Giniling features ground beef from Penokean Hills in Algoma, Ontario.
Their beef is raised without added hormones or routine antibiotics, fully traceable from farm to fork, and their calves are fed locally-grown field peas. 🌱 These farming practices help us make menu choices families can feel good about.
Wednesday’s snack time features some of the most carefully-crafted cookies. 😍Our NEW Coconut & Chia Cookies (landing for the first time at child care centres and Snack Clubs this afternoon!) from Etobicoke’s Shasha Co. are vegan-friendly and made with their own in-house sprouted grain flour. Proof that local businesses often have some pretty cool practices happening behind-the-scenes. We also serve other mini snap cookies from Shasha, like our Mini Organic Lemon Cookies and seasonal Cocoa Sweetheart Cookies for Valentine’s Day. 🩷
We’re also sharing some lunar love with littlest eaters thanks to New Moon Kitchen and their vegan-friendly Mini Moon Biscuits. 🌙 Made SUPER close to home in a downtown Toronto bakery that’s free of common allergens like peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, eggs & sesame.

😍 🥄 Did you know our yogurt is custom made just for us?
We’re continuing Local Food Week with a spotlight on Etobicoke’s Elite Dairy, inspired by this morning's smooth & creamy start with our Vanilla Maple Yogurt (and plain yogurt for infants).
We wanted our yogurt to be locally made, with a focus on simple ingredients, and something kids would be familiar with and genuinely excited to eat. Together with Elite, we dreamed up this delicious snack, which stands out by being naturally sweetened with a hint of maple syrup.
Elite Dairy also makes our Honey Yogurt (you guessed it, naturally sweetened with honey!), Maple Soft Cheese & Dill Soft Cheese. Some snack staples never go out of style and these definitely make the list, so we’re extra happy we can source these kid-approved favourites locally.

✨ 🏡 🍽️ Happy Local Food Week! All week long, we’re highlighting where local love shows up on our menu every day, and we already have THREE exceptional partners to celebrate this Monday.
Crisp & juicy apples from Vineland Growers are showing up throughout the week. Grown by Canadian farmers since 1913, this Niagara based co-op was founded by four fruit growers on the Niagara Peninsula and holds the distinction of being the longest continually run co-operative in Ontario. That’s over a century of delicious produce! 🍎
This morning’s snack features organic raspberry fruit spread from Crofter’s Organic, who also makes our NEW organic apricot fruit spread (coming soon for Snack Club kids). Crafted in Parry Sound, this family run favourite is known for its fruit-forward goodness, along with non-GMO and gluten-free recipes and planet friendly practices. Truly jam-packed (we had to!) with care. 😉
Today’s afternoon snack includes roasted red pepper loaf from Manoucher Bakery. This Toronto-based, family run bakery has been perfecting preservative-free breads since 1983 and is now proudly led by the founder’s daughter. They also make more delicious menu items for us, like our savoury onion bread, folded basil loaf and whole wheat rolls.

Meet the BFF your fave sandwich has been waiting for! 🤝✨
Our Squash-Coconut Soup is BACK on our menu AND also ready to make at home.
Not only does it taste great with RFRK’s Soup & Sammie combo (paired with a delicious hummus & cheddar sandwich), this bowl of sunshine is plant-based & dairy-free so more families can slurp away. Coconut milk gives it that lush, silky & smooth texture, and it’s a delicious way to enjoy nourishing orange veggies (Canada’s Food Guide recommends eating a few times a week!). It really rounds out a meal beautifully while still standing strong solo.
Your one blend away from your family’s summer soup era! Make it at rfrk.com/real-food-recipes/squash-coconut-soup

We were more than happy to step in recently when a centre needed extra support, helping make meal & snack time as seamless as possible 💛A big thank you to Maria for this thoughtful review:
“We really appreciate RFRK taking our Centre on for temporary catering while our cook was away. We were impressed by the taste and the presentation of every meal. Steve made sure to check in with us and made the transition smooth. I love the diversity of the cultures represented in the menu and that many items are made inhouse. We hope to use RFRK again!”
Special shoutout to Steve, our Sr. Client Experience Manager! 😉
Moments like this remind us why we do what we do. Supporting centres, serving delicious meals, and helping things run a little more smoothly!

🐝 What’s all the buzz about? We’re bee-yond excited to celebrate World Bee Day by sharing one of our favorite local initiatives!
🍯 Through our partnership with Patrick Secord, Ontario Beekeeper and George Brown College Hospitality & Culinary Arts Professor, RFRK hosts a thriving group of beehives right at our facility. Nurturing these hives is a joy, and the end-of-summer reward is several dozen jars of our very own hyper-local honey. Thanks for your help, Patrick, you’re truly the bees knees!
🌼 These buzzing superheroes are vital to our ecosystem. Pollination transforms flowers into the nutritious fruits & vegetables we serve to children every single day. Pollinator Partnership notes that 1 in every 3 bites of food we take is thanks to bees, and between 75%–95% of all flowering plants on earth need pollinators.
📚 Looking to enjoy a story that invites kids to think twice about these tiny helpers? Check out The Thing About Bees: A Love Letter by Shabazz Larkin. Give it a read to show kids that bees are fascinating, not frightening!

It’s answer reveal day! 👀Thank you to everyone for playing along with our 22nd Birthday Daily Quiz Challenge as we celebrated 22 years of Real Food for Real Kids. 💚
🍎 Day 1: Total apples delivered = 2.3 million! One of the CORE stats (and one of the most a-peel-ing 😉) of our quiz challenge, 2.3 million apples equals around 14350 cases, which stacks up to about 7 CN towers!
⚡ Day 2: Total EV kilometres driven = 36,926 km! You could say our EV fleet really went the distance in 2025. Our delivery teams were out making sure fresh meals & snacks arrived on time while helping us take steps toward a lower-emissions future.
🥗 Day 3: Total meals & snacks delivered = 18.5 million! 🤯Now that’s a wow number that even made our team do a double take, AND it’s enough to feed the city of Toronto SIX times!
💚 Day 4: Total meal substitutions prepared to accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions = 348,000—enough to fill a big concert stadium 7 times. Safety is a top priority for us, and every child deserves to feel included at mealtime. That’s why each special meal and snack substitution is handled with extra care behind the scenes, from thoughtful ingredient sourcing to meticulous preparation.
💛 Day 5: Total value of surplus food + hot meals provided = $96,196.23! Whenever we can, we make sure good food doesn’t go to waste. Through community partnerships like Wagner Green YMCA and Good Shepherd Toronto, we shared enough to provide a year’s worth of groceries to 5 families of 4 in Toronto.
We hope you enjoyed these daily quizzes highlighting some of the biggest numbers behind our 2025 operations! Thanks to all the ECEs & parents who played along for a chance to win a Grand Prize Pack to be shared with their whole class, or their child’s whole class.
Stay tuned for our Grand Prize Pack winner reveal on Friday! And we’re dying to know, did you get all of them right? Let us know in the comments!

Children’s Mental Health Week is May 4th - May 11th, and we’re spotlighting Attack of the Hangries by Katherine Pryor, illustrated by Thiago Buzzy. 💛 The story takes a moment we all know well, that sudden shift from fine to furious when hunger hits, and turns it into a playful, educational read that helps kids understand the science behind the “hangries.”
What makes this book especially meaningful is how it connects healthy eating habits with mental wellness. 🥕🍎 Real, nourishing foods can play an important role in supporting children’s mood, confidence, focus, and emotional wellbeing. Through humour and relatable moments, the story opens the door to age-appropriate conversations about how big feelings can sometimes be connected to very real physical needs, like nutritious food, rest, and care.
Visit rfrk.com/attack-of-the-hangries for more. Here, you can also explore how Real Food for Real Kids supports children’s mental wellbeing by helping nourish growing bodies & minds with real food. 🌱
